My Senior year of High School my Fathers cousins took me with them for spring break to their condo in Coco, Costa Rica. I can't express how much this trip meant to me, but I can try to express how the experience changed me. Visiting a third world country made me realize all the things we take for granted here in the US and it brought to light the differences in the way of living in both countries. I remember driving downtown in the morning to purchase fresh mangos from the guys selling fruit on the side of the roads, and thinking about how amazing that would be here in the US. Of course, in Michigan our climate doesn't call for that but it seems like our country is starting to implement more farmers markets in the warmer states. I loved seeing people who had less than us, happier than us. The natives of Coco enjoyed their way of living and appreciated the things they had, they weren't carried away in technology and lived a slower paced lifestyle. Visiting a third world country was a phenomenal experience not only because of the beauty but also because it forced me to reflect on the way we live here in the US. Since this trip, I try and spend more time taking in the natural beauty of all the little details in life, and remembering what is important.
